Writing Dark Fiction
About the Course
This course will cover techniques of writing speculative, fantasy and horror fiction, including creating worlds, writing characters, exploring the uncanny and developing plot.
Each session consists of a lesson (provided via pdf), followed by an exercise for you to work through in your own time. Your work will then by marked by our course tutor, who will provide individual feedback and guidance on your work.
All our courses include a free critique of a final piece of work (up to 10,000 words), following completion of all sessions.
This course is available in 6 or 12 sessions.
About the Tutor
This course is delivered by Dr. Hannah Priest, a university tutor and published writer. Hannah has an MA in English Literature from the University of St. Andrews, where her dissertation explored the work of Roald Dahl. She also has an MA in Medieval Literature and a PhD in English from the University of Manchester. Her PhD thesis examined monsters and monstrosity in medieval romance. She has published articles on medieval literature, fantasy and horror. Under the name Hannah Kate, she has published poetry, short fiction and reviews - and is the chief editor at Hic Dragones. Hannah has taught English and Creative Writing for six years.
